The first thing you'll notice when launched into the world of Forza Horizon 5 is just how vast the map is. Despite taking place all in one region, the game blends together 11 different habitats; from ancient cities to modern citadels, sleepy beaches to active volcanoes, each road you drive down provides something new to see. Gameplay is broken up into six different styles of racing, including dirt tracks, street racing and PR stunts, so you can select missions depending on your preferred style of ride. Forza Horizon 5 includes over 500 cars across a wide range of driving disciplines, including road racing, cross country, drifting, and mud racing.
With so many options, it's hard to tell which vehicle is the nicest in Forza Horizon 5 – yet there isn't a single solution. To add to the complexity, Forza Horizon 5 offers four distinct 'Series', each lasting four weeks and featuring unique challenges and rewards. That brings us to the campaign (playable solo or co-op, as before), where most Forza Horizon 5 players will spend their time naturally. The biggest introduction is the new story-driven Expeditions mode — it's a bit of a guided adventure as someone will either be driving beside you, flying above you, or sitting next to you in your vehicle. Expeditions usually involves driving to a place, like say an active volcano or Aztec ruins. Once you're there, you can unlock a bunch of optional accolades by finding objects of interest, if you're willing to spend the time in the area.
Then you reunite with the non-player character partner who takes you on a wild journey, be it sprinting through a tropical storm or running down the side of an active volcano. It's meant to be the highlight of a region — and unlocks a new festival site in turn. Firstly, there is the choice between the standard edition of the game and the premium one, which offers a plethora of early game unlocks and promised expansion packs, but costs almost twice the price. Whether you're struggling to find the rare cars hidden in various barns across the map, or you want the latest kooky sounding horn or wacky emote, Forza Horizon 5 has the in-game shop for you.
Many can be unlocked via gameplay and chance, but you're certainly encouraged to pay upfront to unlock your favorite in-game items. Given the limited amount of time I've had with the game — Microsoft gave us access only earlier this week — I can't say if there's more variety to the events. Though the fact that Forza Horizon 5's Mexico is the biggest map Playground Games has ever built, you would hope that to be true. Forza Horizon 5 needed to just go a little further with this to engage us, however.
NPCs will tell you how fantastic you are despite failure, and everyone, including your character, is the most blandly likable person possible. The dialog remains pleasant, throughout, but you'll struggle to forge a meaningful connection with any of the game's cast. Had it gone just that little bit further to provide us with memorable characters and dialog, then it would be a game we would recommend to everyone. As it stands, if you're not into racing games, you probably won't be into Forza Horizon 5.

Forza Horizon 5 is a game made for everyone — but annoyingly, there's not many games like it. Need for Speed is the only other franchise I can think of that bothers with open worlds, but NFS ran itself into the ground a long while ago. It's sticking to the whole route-based thing with its next game Grid Legends, though it will offer more of a narrative.
Essentially, there's a lack of competition — which inevitably results in a lack of innovation. Playground Games can offer up an iterative experience and rake in the money, because Forza Horizon 5 is in a world of its own. Forza Horizon 5 does still have a PvP mode — it's called Horizon Open — but it's nowhere near as cutthroat. Horizon Open is meant to be "more low pressure, more inclusive, more accessible."
